Leaders Born or Made?

In The Leadership Challenge "desire and persistence" is a segment that i find most significant. Anyone can become a leader through desire and persistence if they really believe in what they want to help or demonstrate.  Whether good or bad, a leader can desire to make this change.  If they have enough passion about what they want, anything can happen, and shows great character through it.  A leader can as well persist this vision they have by taking responsibility and keep trying to get more people involved or much other ways.  I believe that leaders are made not born.  People might be born with characteristics that can help being a leader but it is up to them whether they use those characteristics or not.  I think leadership is a learnable and gets perfected from practice.

  1. Lauren, thanks for these posts. You have a couple still missing at this point -- the interview questions and reflection on your interview. You also need to post to a classmate's blog.
I like your Personal Best post. It is authentic (your voice and your experience) and you identify a time you had to "step out and step up." What traits of a leader which we have discussed to date were evident in your behavior?
Your analysis of the K & P quote is not as strong. Read it again to yourself. Is it clear? Before you post future blogs, be sure your ideas are well organized and your sentence structures clear. In a public forum like this, you want your readers to derive full value from the meaningful ideas you want to share. Remember to tie in elements of our class discussions into future posts! Enjoy hearing from you in class, too!
