Reasonant Leader

The way I would advise a leader to be a reasonant leader is by first knowing about yourself and having emotional intelligence.  It would be the most helpful to learn by watching another great leader, because you learn best from example and take a lot of those cualities.  Not lashing out and knowing how you react in situations is a good thing.  Being able to keep your position and still showing your power through being calm is much more respected.  Also, listening to the needs of your follwers and making sure they know their idea is being taken into consideration.  Our class has been doing a project for Care for the Campus and i think that by our example to promate a cleaner facility and more respect for the items like chairs and tables will send a bigger message out to the rest of the student body and they can follow by our example.

Goleman Quote Reflection

“No creature can fly with just one wing. Gifted leadership occurs where heart and head – feeling and thought – meet. These are the two wings that allow a leader to soar.”

P. 26 Goleman, Primal Leadership

In Goleman's quote, he uses the analogy that no creature can fly with just one wing.  But a creature needs two wings to be able to fly.  He means by this that a successful leader cant only have heart and head or feeling and thought.  Rather a leader needs to have both qualities and when a leader does have both he is looked up to and will go very far in life with his/her job and socially. A leader needs to have a heart and head for the desire and persistence to be successful and feeling and thought to be aware of the surrounding communities feelings and understand them.  Having both these qualities can help in almost all situations, for example, in cheerleading, the leader needs to be able to really like performing and get joy through it but also listen to what the rest of the team are feeling and any ideas that they have.

Myers-Briggs Tool

Using the Myers-Briggs Tool was really interesting and I'm glad that our Leadership Class got to try it out. It has helped me understand more about myself and my strengths as a leader and in general.  The results were very surprising because of how accurate they were to my personality. I turned out to be an ESFP. Before taking the Myers-Briggs tool I didn't really have any idea on how I would end up.  But once I learned the results I got i believe that they fit very well.  It is a good tool and I think that everyone should try it at least once in their life.  It really helps open yours eyes to who you are and what characteristics you posses, it helps you find yourself, which is really refreshing.  These result will be very helpful because i now know my strengths and weaknesses.  I now know that i am good at being flexible which is a good quality and can use generosity, enthusiasm and outgoingness to get tasks done and work well with people.  I have also become aware that i may get easily distracted or become annoying using too much humor.

Changed view on Leadership

Leadership class has helped me realize what a real leader is and how they act.  I thought that leaders could only be made, it was who they were and the genes and characteristics they had.  But over these past 7 classes, Mr. Monaco has taught us that a leader can be made from observing and the persistence and patience to become one.  I understand how hard it is to be a good leader and all the hard work it takes now.  It takes an open mind and to be easy to talk to but still a strong backbone.  Even the smallest acts of leadership count and i've been noticing it more now throughout my peers and throughout myself although I still need work I know through desire and strength I can accomplish my goals and the ability to become a good leader.

Leadership Interview with Vatana Watters

What do you believe are some qualities of a leader?
- To be able to make decisions that are difficult sometimes because they affect everybody in the company, to know what is best for the company and not to only benefit yourself, to be able to recognize peoples talents and put together a team.  They need to think outside the box and listen to ideas and have good communication skills.

Are leaders born or made?
-Mrs. Watters believes that leaders can be both born and made.  She said that you are born with characteristics that make up a leader but what you do with those characteristics is what counts.  Although, she added leaders can also be made from absolute passion in what you do with determination and observing others.

What is the best part about being the founder and president of a successful business?
-The best part is that once you've made your decisions and your team executes it you see all of your challenges and hard effort come together to a great success which is truly a great feeling.  Being able to see what your accomplishments have come to after all the 20 years she has been working with this company and watching people who share the same joy is so entertaining to watch.

What made you interested in starting your own business?
-Mrs. Watters said that she has always had so much passion for the fashion industry.  She said that she has always loved clothing and how it affects the way a person feels and wanting to be a part of making someone feel good about what they are wearing when they go down the isle.  She said she is very lucky that she started a bridal inc. because it is a joyous day in a women's life to pick out her wedding dress and feels very special to be apart of that.

What advice do you give to young leaders?
-Go for your dreams,  you spend so much time with your career so you want it to be something that you really enjoy and will get pleasure out of your successes.  To always be persistent and disciplined and don't be afraid to make mistakes because that is the best way you learn.

She has done so much and strived in her work to get to her successes today in the bridal apparel manufacturing.  Over the years of watching her work on her daughters dresses for special events and every once in a while visiting her work I look up to her as a leader and really appreciate what she has done.

Questions I may ask:
